Features

Everything you need to keep tabs under control

  • Save tabs as sessions

Save a window, selected tabs, one tab group, everything left or right of a tab, or all windows at once. Each session gets a name, notes and a folder.

  • Restores that remember how you worked

Native tab groups come back with their title, color and collapsed state. Pinned tabs are opt-in, and split-view pairs return side by side on Chromium 155+.

  • A bookmark board on your new tab

Columns with icons, drag-and-drop ordering, and drop-a-link-to-save. Drag a saved session link straight into a column.

  • Search everything

One fuzzy search across sessions, saved tabs, bookmarks and your open tabs. Press Ctrl+K or / on any TabLodge page.

  • Organize your sessions

Folders, notes, search, sorting and multi-select. Move sessions between folders and undo any delete from the trash bin.

  • Flexible restores

Restore into the current or a new window. Keep or remove the saved tabs afterward, skip duplicates, and optionally unload background tabs to save memory.

  • Side panel and right-click menus

Browse bookmarks, sessions and open tabs from the browser side panel. Save from page, link and toolbar context menus, or with keyboard shortcuts.

  • Import and back up

Bring your data from other tools, and export to JSON, HTML, CSV or Markdown any time. Your backups are plain files you control.

Find anything fast

One search for sessions, tabs and bookmarks

Press Ctrl+K or / for the command palette. Type a few letters and TabLodge ranks matches from your saved sessions, saved tabs, bookmarks and open tabs together, or falls through to a normal web search with your default engine.

Side panel

Always one click away

Keep TabLodge open next to the page you are reading. The side panel has your bookmarks, saved sessions and the tabs open in this window, with search across all three. Make the toolbar icon open the panel or the quick popup, whichever you prefer.

Privacy

Your tabs never leave your browser

Tab lists show where you work, what you read and what you plan. TabLodge treats them as yours alone.

  • No servers

There is no backend and no account. Sessions, bookmarks and settings live in your browser's extension storage.

  • No network requests

No analytics, telemetry, ads or CDN. All code and icons are bundled, and site icons come from the browser's local favicon cache.

  • No website access

No host permissions and no content scripts. TabLodge never reads page contents. It reads tab titles and URLs only when you save or restore.

The code is open under the MIT license, so you can audit every permission. Read the full privacy policy.

Install

Install in about a minute

TabLodge is not in the Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons yet, so you load it yourself. It works the same way in Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and Opera.

  1. Download the latest tablodge-x.y.z.zip from GitHub Releases.
  2. Unzip it into a folder you will keep, such as ~/Extensions/tablodge. The browser loads the extension from there.
  3. Open chrome://extensions (or brave://extensions, edge://extensions) and turn on Developer mode.
  4. Click Load unpacked and choose the folder that contains manifest.json.
  5. Pin TabLodge from the puzzle-piece menu, then open a new tab.

Prefer to build it yourself? Clone the repo, run pnpm install and pnpm build, and load dist/tablodge. See the README.

Updating

Download the new zip, replace the files in the same folder, then press the reload button on TabLodge's card. Reuse the same folder: the browser ties your saved data to it.

Make a backup first

In Settings, choose Data and export JSON. It is a plain file you can re-import anywhere.

Switching

Bring your tabs from other tools

Moving over from another tab manager? Import its export file and TabLodge turns it into sessions and bookmarks, with a review step and duplicate handling. Looking for a comparison? See TabLodge as an alternative to OneTab, Session Buddy and Toby.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is TabLodge free?

Yes. TabLodge is free and open source under the MIT license. There is no paid tier, no account and no limit on saved tabs other than your browser storage.

Is TabLodge on the Chrome Web Store?

Not yet. For now you download a zip from GitHub Releases and load it with Developer mode, or build it from source. It takes about a minute, and the steps are below.

Which browsers does TabLodge support?

Chromium-based browsers that support Manifest V3 and Chrome 116 or newer: Google Chrome, Brave, Microsoft Edge, Vivaldi, Opera and others. Split-view restore needs Chromium 155 or newer; older versions open those tabs side by side as normal tabs.

Does TabLodge collect any data?

No. TabLodge has no servers, accounts, analytics or telemetry, and it makes no network requests of its own. It requests no website permissions and injects nothing into pages. Your sessions and bookmarks are stored in your browser profile.

Does it sync between my computers?

No, by design: syncing would need a server. You can export a JSON backup on one machine and import it on another.

Can I import my tabs from OneTab, Session Buddy, Tab Session Manager or Toby?

Yes. Open Settings, choose Data, then import the file you exported from the other tool. You get a review screen before anything is saved, and duplicates can be skipped.

Will TabLodge replace my new tab page?

Yes, it shows your bookmark board and sessions on the new tab page. If you would rather keep your current new tab, turn it off in Settings and use the toolbar popup, side panel or shortcuts instead.

How do I update TabLodge?

Download the new zip, replace the contents of the same folder you loaded the extension from, then click the reload button on TabLodge in your extensions page. Always reuse the same folder, because the browser ties your saved data to it.
